Eating disorders – help is available.

By TerSL 26 Feb 2018

Did you know that an estimated 725,000 people in the UK have a diagnosed eating disorder, although the true scale of the issue is unknown and an estimated 11% of these sufferers are male?

First Steps Derbyshire is an award winning organisation based in Derby, that provides support to people of all ages with all types of eating difficulties and disorders and this support is extended to parents and carers.

First Steps is unique in its approach to treatment because the majority of the staff and volunteers have personal experience of the illnesses and associated mental health problems and are either recovered or are on a road towards a happier and healthier life.

First Steps can help in a variety of ways including:

  • peer support,
  • counselling and therapy,
  • befriending and
  • group support.

The service is empathetic and non-judgemental so if you are struggling with an eating difficulty or disorder or you know someone who may need support in this area, don’t hesitate to contact First Steps (contact details below).  It could be the first step on the road to recovery!

Alternatively contact Student Wellbeing (Tel: ext 3000) and ask to be referred to First Steps.
