Which hall is for you?

By TerSL 22 Nov 2017

Coming back to halls next year and not sure which hall to opt for?

Check out the wide range of halls and rooms available including some (the ones with the asterisk) which are eligible for our Love2Shop offer.

If you are one of the first 500 to apply for certain halls you’ll be entitled to a £125 Love2Shop voucher so hurry up and get applying!

Here’s the low down on all the halls and what they have to offer, starting with the priciest and ending with the best value for money:

  • Flamsteed Court  - This is our ‘top of the range’ hall, reserved for mature and postgraduate students who need accommodation. The apartments offer double en suite rooms with their own open plan kitchen/diner/lounge area.  Situated right near to Kedleston Road and all its facilities including the Sports Centre and across the road from Markeaton Park. Double en suite apartment rooms available.
  • Agard Court - Agard Court is our brand new hall opening in September 2018.  As well as being literally next door to the Law school, and very near Friar Gate the hall will have a set number of its en suite premium plus rooms available for returners. This room type includes a small double bed in your en suite room and a social space with TV and sofa in your kitchen, plus everything will be brand, spanking new.  Also we now know that the new Hall Manager there will be Michelle Johnstone, current Hall Manager at Lonsdale Hall and she is bringing her caretaker Dave and claeners with her.  En suite premium plus rooms available.

  • Cathedral Court - This hall in the Cathedral Quarter is great for getting into the city.  Derby Market Place, QUAD and all the shops are just around the corner from you, not to mention the Queens Leisure Centre swimming pool across the road and The Willows for Laser Quest just three  minutes away. The rooms here offer the same perks as those at Agard Court.  En suite premium plus rooms available.

  • Peak Court - The Unibus stop is just outside Peak Court and the Co-op at Five Lamps is just round the corner - very  handy for supplies. It’s also very close to town and great venues like the Flowerpot, The Blessington Carriage (for comedy) and Deda (Derby Dance Centre).  The rooms have a small double bed and have been recently refurbished but there is no social space with TV and sofa in the kitchen (making them £7 a week cheaper than Agard Court and Cathedral Court – bargain!). En suite premium rooms available.

  • Nunnery Court*- This hall offers mostly standard premium rooms and they’re lovely. If you haven’t seen them, contact the hall directly and ask for a look at a room. Ok, so they will cost a little bit more than a normal standard room (£5.04 a week to be precise) but we reckon that’s worth it just for the small double bed, let alone the new fittings and fixtures and the trendy décor.  See for yourself – we think you’ll be impressed.  Standard premium and en suite premium rooms available.

  • St Christopher’s Court * -  Literally across the road from Britannia Mill, five minutes’ walk from Markeaton Street and the STEM building and close to the Co-op for buying food.  Best of all the staff are luv-er-ly.  Andy, the Manager is very friendly and approachable.  You couldn’t meet a nicer chap than Mark Severn the caretaker and the cleaning team are really nice too! By next year half of this hall will have been refurbished to have Standard premium rooms like the ones at Nunnery Court. Premium standard, standard and en suite rooms available.

  • What about Sir Peter Hilton Court?* – well this hall has had some residents for three years on the trot so that tells you how well liked it is!  Is it the combination of Neil, the Manager’s sunny disposition and the friendly attitude of the staff? or is it because it’s ‘staggering distance’ from town?  Probably both. Of course it’s also ideal if you are studying at One Friar Gate Square – it’s literally across the road and it’s the biggest hall so there are more people to get to know. Finally don't forget it has its own study room - The Malvern Room - which you can use for group study and practising presentations. Standard, en suite and en suite plus rooms available.

  • Princess Alice Court* is a bit smaller and cosier than Sir Peter Hilton Court but very handy for 67 Bridge Street and the city centre.  Amy Fletcher the Manager and her team are great at making you feel at home and Alan Brown your trusty caretaker is on hand to sort out your maintenance issues. Standard and en suite rooms available.

So now it’s up to you………..eeny, meeny, miney mo!
